Trump Refutes Claims He’s Ceded Presidency To Elon Musk

President Donald Trump has pushed back against claims that he has “ceded the presidency” to billionaire Elon Musk, who has taken an unusually prominent role in the transition to the White House.

Trump made the comments during a speech in Arizona on Sunday, following Musk’s involvement in helping the president-elect derail a budget bill negotiated in Congress.

EDITOR’S PICKS

This intervention marked the latest instance of Musk playing a significant role in the incoming Trump administration, which has sparked criticism from Democrats and some Republicans.

Responding to these criticisms for the first time, Trump defended Musk, stating, “And no, he’s not taking the presidency.”

He dismissed the notion that he had “ceded the presidency to Elon Musk” as another “hoax” pushed by his political adversaries.

Trump also made a lighthearted remark, pointing out that Musk would be constitutionally barred from taking the presidency.

“You know why he can’t be [president]?” Trump asked the crowd in Arizona. “He wasn’t born in this country.”

Musk, originally from South Africa and the world’s richest person according to Forbes, has become one of Trump’s most vocal supporters. He endorsed Trump in July after an assassination attempt and invested around $200 million into a Political Action Committee (PAC) backing the president-elect.

Musk has since been tapped to lead a proposed Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), which aims to take a drastic approach to cutting federal government spending. However, the “department” is not an official government agency, and its scope remains unclear.
