Trump to Attend Notre Dame Reopening in Paris After Election Win
Trump, recently elected to a second term as U.S. president, is set to travel to Paris later this week to attend the reopening of Notre Dame Cathedral on December 7.
This marks Donald Trump’s first overseas trip since his re-election last month.
Trump’s team and French President Emmanuel Macron’s office have been in talks about the visit for several days.
Macron invited the former president to attend the event, which celebrates the iconic cathedral’s restoration after a devastating fire in 2019.

“President Emmanuel Macron has done a wonderful job ensuring that Notre Dame has been restored to its full level of glory, and even more so,” he shared on Truth Social. “It will be a very special day for all!”
Trump has long admired Notre Dame. In 2019, after the fire, he called it “so horrible to watch” and suggested on social media that “flying water tankers” might be used to fight the blaze.
While their relationship in D.Trump’s first term was sometimes rocky, it was also described as a “bromance” by observers.
The two leaders spoke by phone after Macron’s congratulatory post on X. Reports suggest Macron also plans to invite Trump to a summit on artificial intelligence in Paris early next year.
The reopening ceremony is expected to host around 50 world leaders, according to Paris Police Chief Laurent Nunez. This adds to the significance of Trump’s visit.
Other Recent Developments
The trip follows the newly elected president’s announcement that Charles Kushner, his son-in-law Jared Kushner’s father, will be the next U.S. ambassador to France.
Charles Kushner, a real estate developer, was pardoned by the former president in 2020 after serving prison time for tax evasion and other crimes.
D.Trump’s Paris trip also comes just days after Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau visited Trump at Mar-a-Lago, making Trudeau the first G7 leader to meet with Trump in person since his election victory.
