Trump Vows Tariffs On China To Prevent Taiwan Blockade If Re-Elected

Donald Trump has claimed that if he returns to the White House, China would not dare to challenge him because President Xi Jinping knows he is “crazy.”

In an interview with the Wall Street Journal’s editorial board, Trump stated that if re-elected, he would impose heavy tariffs on China if it attempted to blockade Taiwan.

“I would say: if you go into Taiwan, I’m sorry, but I’ll tax you 150% to 200%,” Trump said.

On the campaign trail, Trump has repeatedly argued that under his leadership, America’s adversaries would avoid provoking the U.S. due to their fear of an unpredictable and forceful response.

He added that military force wouldn’t be necessary to prevent a Taiwan blockade, as President Xi “respects me and knows I’m [expletive] crazy.”

“I had a very strong relationship with him,” Trump said of President Xi. “He was actually a really good, I don’t want to say friend – I don’t want to act foolish, ‘he was my friend’ – but I got along with him great.”

“He’s a very fierce person,” Trump added.

The former president spoke positively about his relationship with Russian President Vladimir Putin, stating, “I got along with him great.”

However, Trump, who has faced criticism for his past praise of the Russian leader, emphasized that he had warned Putin against invading Ukraine.

He told the Journal that he said to Putin: “’I’m going to hit you right in the middle of fricking Moscow.’ I said, ‘We’re friends. I don’t want to do it, but I have no choice.’ He goes, ‘No way.’ I said, ‘Way.’

“I said, ‘You’re going to be hit so hard, and I’m going to take those [expletive] domes right off your head.’ Because, you know, he lives under the domes.”

Trump has framed his foreign policy as “America First,” vowing to engage in trade wars and end US involvement in the Russia-Ukraine conflict, though critics argue it leans toward isolationism.

His selection of Ohio Senator JD Vance as his running mate has raised concerns among Ukraine’s allies, as Vance is a strong opponent of further US aid to the country.
