EKO HOT BLOG reports that Clad in red shirts, the aggrieved workers blocked the ministry’s main entrance, preventing vehicles from entering or exiting the compound. Chanting protest songs and wielding placards, they expressed anger over what they described as prolonged government insensitivity.
Speaking during the demonstration, Patrick Solomon, Industrial Relations Officer of the Nigerian Nuclear Regulatory Authority (NNRA), accused the ministry of neglecting their demands despite multiple attempts at dialogue.
“We are here to protest the insensitivity to our requests and demands as a union and as members,” Solomon told reporters. “We’ve used all available avenues to resolve the issues, but there have been no listening ears. Our office’s IGR has been withheld for nothing less than 15 months.”
He said the delay in releasing the funds had crippled day-to-day operations at the NNRA, while members continued to suffer due to non-payment of allowances. “It has been very difficult to operate in the office. Most importantly, allowances have not been paid. We have been on this issue with the minister for a very long time now, and it’s obvious he is not ready to listen to us.”
