Tunji Alausa Champions Health Research, Inaugurates National Committee At NIMR In Lagos

Eko Hot Blog reports that the Minister for State Health and Social Welfare, Dr Tunji Alausa, has inaugurated the National Health Research Committee.

The minister inaugurated the committee at the Nigerian Institute of Medical Research (NIMR) in Yaba, Lagos, on Thursday, January 4, 2024.

The event commenced with the introduction of officials, including Prof. Babatunde Lawal Salako, the Director-General of NIMR, Professor Olufunmilayo Olopade, the committee’s chairman, Dr Akin Abayomi, the Commissioner for Health, Lagos State, and others.

During the inauguration, Prof. Salako welcomed the attendees, and Dr Lolade Adeyemi virtually shared insights into the vision for health research in Nigeria.

On his part, Dr. Alausa expressed his vision, emphasizing the committee’s role in steering Nigeria’s health research agenda.

He called for collaboration, innovation, and the incorporation of cutting-edge technologies like artificial intelligence and telemedicine to revolutionize healthcare delivery.

“Good afternoon and thank you for joining us on this auspicious occasion – the inauguration of the National Health Research Committee. As the Honorable Minister of State for Health and Social Welfare, I stand before you with a vision that echoes our collective commitment to the well-being of every Nigerian citizen,” the minister said.

“I bring a vision rooted in the belief that research is the compass guiding our journey towards healthier lives. The National Health Research Committee is a bold statement of our commitment to advancing health outcomes. It is an intellectual powerhouse steering us through health challenges, fostering collaboration and innovation.

“Our approach should be one of collaboration, breaking down silos to tackle health issues comprehensively. In this era of rapid technological advancement, we must harness innovation for transformative healthcare. The committee’s endeavors should embrace cutting-edge technologies like AI and telemedicine.”

Dr Alausa stressed the importance of upholding ethical standards, transparency in research processes, and active community engagement for citizen empowerment.

He further highlighted the global impact of the committee’s work, urging collaboration with international partners to position Nigeria as a leader in the international health research community.

“As we embark on this journey, let us uphold the highest ethical standards, ensuring transparency and building public trust. Our commitment extends into communities, engaging people in community-centric research. Nigeria’s health challenges are not isolated; collaborations with international partners will elevate us to a leadership position in global health research,” the health minister stated.

“The National Health Research Committee is the nexus of expertise, dedication, and vision, facilitating collaboration and ensuring standards. Its success relies on collective efforts – researchers, policymakers, healthcare providers, and the public, forging a path toward a healthier, prosperous future for Nigeria.”

Dr. Alausa appreciated the committee for accepting to serve, urging them to propel the country to the forefront of health research.

“In conclusion, my heartfelt gratitude to the esteemed Committee for accepting this responsibility. Let us embark on a journey that propels Nigeria to the forefront of health research, guided by the spirit of collaboration, innovation, and unwavering commitment to every Nigerian’s health and well-being,” he added in his address.

Meanwhile, Prof. Olopade accepted her role and the event concluded with closing remarks and photographs to commemorate this significant step in Nigeria’s journey toward a healthier and more resilient nation.
