Eko Hot Blog reports that the Minister of State for Health and Social Welfare, Dr. Tunji Alausa, has joined forces with the Federal Ministry of Health & Social Welfare and Minister of Industry, Trade, and Investment, Dr. Doris Uzoka-Anite, to lead dialogues with representatives from the Needles and Syringes manufacturing group.
This strategic collaboration aims to tackle challenges within Nigeria’s Needles and Syringes manufacturing industry, focusing on both immediate and long-term strategies to boost local industrialization.
In a statement from Dr. Alausa’s office, he lamented the rise in importation of Needles and Syringes over the past many years, impeding local manufacturing.
The minister noted that the collaboration between the health and trade ministries will craft comprehensive solutions to fortify the growth and sustainability of indigenous manufacturing firms.
Dr. Alausa, who commended his counterpart, Dr. Uzoka-Anite, for prioritising the efforts, revealed that the meeting concluded with ‘highly effective solutions and actionable steps” designed to propel the Needles and Syringes manufacturing sector forward in Nigeria.
“Over the past several years, Nigeria has experienced a significant uptick in the importation of Needles and Syringes, creating hurdles for our local manufacturing companies and exacerbating persistent issues in the production sector,” the statement reads in part.
“This collaborative initiative seeks to identify the specific factors contributing to this concerning trend and craft comprehensive solutions to fortify the growth and sustainability of indigenous manufacturing firms.
“Following the meeting, the Federal Ministry of Health and the Federal Ministry of Trade and Investment, along with the group, concluded with highly effective solutions and actionable steps designed to propel the Needles and Syringes manufacturing sector forward in Nigeria.
“I extend my gratitude to @DrDorisAnite and her team for their prompt attention to this top priority amidst our extensive list of priorities.”
Dr Alausa assured Nigerians that the Coordinating Minister Prof Pate, Dr. Anite, and himself are dedicated to fostering a sustainable ecosystem for local manufacturing businesses to thrive and facilitate the export of locally made products in the next 3-5 years.
The minister added that the goal is to not only thrive locally but to also facilitate the export of homegrown products within the next 3-5 years.
