The minister was joined on Friday, June 7, 2024, by Princess Adejoke Orelope-Adefulire, the Senior Special Assistant to the President of Nigeria on Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), in commissioning the hostel.
This event marks a significant milestone in enhancing the living conditions and educational environment for nursing students in Nigeria.
The newly built 36-bed hostel features en-suite bedrooms, kitchenettes, common rooms equipped with flat-screen TVs and DsTV, and Internet access.
It is designed to house over 120 female nursing students, providing them with a comfortable and conducive living environment.
Dr. Alausa expressed his gratitude and admiration for Princess Orelope-Adefulire and the Office of the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Sustainable Development Goals (OSSAP-SDGs), under the leadership of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, for their commitment to improving the educational infrastructure.
“The youth are our future; we must continue to encourage them and build safe, nourishing environments for them to grow, think, and become good contributors to society,” he remarked.
In addition to the Igbobi hostel, OSSAP-SDGs has pledged to construct a second hostel at Igbobi and another for the students at the Federal Neuro-Psychiatric Hospital Yaba.
These initiatives align with the Federal Government’s ambitious goal of producing 120,000 nurses annually, a critical step towards addressing the healthcare needs of the nation.
“Under the leadership of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, change has already begun,” Dr. Alausa stated.
“Everything in life is a process, but rest assured, with the foundations we are laying during this tenure, Nigeria’s future will be bright and sustainable.”
Dr. Alausa commended the comprehensive efforts to support nursing students, emphasizing the importance of providing a nurturing environment that fosters growth and development.
He highlighted the new hostel as a significant advancement in achieving the Federal Government’s educational and healthcare objectives.
The commissioning of the new nursing hostel at the National Orthopaedic Hospital Igbobi represents a collaborative effort to invest in the future of Nigeria’s healthcare system.
With improved living conditions and enhanced educational support, the next generation of nurses is better equipped to contribute positively to the nation’s health sector.
