Eko Hot Blog reports that the Minister of State for Health and Social Welfare, Dr Tunji Alausa, has commissioned a fully equipped clinical building with In Vitro Fertilization (IVF) Centre at the Federal Medical Centre (FMC), Ebute Metta, Lagos State.
The commissioning of the clinical building took place on Thursday, January 4, 2024, under leadership of the Medical Director, Dr Adedamola Dada.
The ophthalmology centre, equipped with two theatres and four consulting rooms, addresses the growing demand for ophthalmic services.
Furthermore, the addition of a 50-bed admission facility aims to efficiently accommodate a larger volume of patients.
Speaking during the ceremony, Dr Alausa expressed satisfaction with the progressive work going on in the health facility, stating that the quality of the healthcare system in the facility aligns with President Bola Tinubu’s vision for Nigerians.
“I am honoured to officially commission the new Clinical Building at FMC Ebute Metta, a testament to our commitment to enhancing healthcare infrastructure. This facility is a significant milestone in our efforts to provide accessible and quality healthcare services to the people, aligning with the President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s dedication to improving the nation’s healthcare delivery,” he said.
“The expanded infrastructure, including the IVF center, ophthalmology center, and increased bed capacity, underscores our commitment to meeting the evolving healthcare needs of our citizens. We strive to ensure that every Nigerian can access specialized care promptly, fostering a healthier and more resilient society.”
Similarly, Dr. Dada, the Medical Director of FMC Ebute Metta, shared insights during the inauguration event, emphasizing the potential impact of the IVF centre.
“We are very confident that we’re going to be able to crash the cost of IVF in Nigeria once we start working,” he said.
The FMC Ebute Metta boss highlighted the hospital’s commitment to accessibility, leveraging its public institution status.
He noted that the new Clinical Building, featuring the IVF centre, an ophthalmology centre, a 50-bed male and female ward, and a cardiology laboratory, signifies a significant expansion.
Dr. Dada explained that, “This will increase the number of beds that we have in our hospitals substantially and a cardiology lab that will enable Nigerians to access specialist care promptly.
“The ophthalmology centre, equipped with two theatres and four consulting rooms, addresses the growing demand for ophthalmic services.”
