5 Years on, Turkey Still in Pursuit of Coup Suspects
EKO HOT BLOG reports that Turkey issued an arrest warrant for 37 suspects on Tuesday for alleged ties to a network accused of orchestrating a 2016 coup attempt.
In a written statement, the prosecutor’s office in Ankara said the warrant was issued as part of an investigation into the Gulen Movement’s “structuring” in Land Forces Command.
Two active-duty officers, 28 military students, and two “private imams” were among those accused of communicating with the organization’s “civil imams” via fixed telephone lines.
Following the coup attempt in 2016, the Turkish government launched a massive crackdown on suspects with ties to the network.
Ankara says U.S. based Muslim preacher Fethullah Gulen was behind the coup attempt, in which at least 250 people were killed.
