Twitter Fumes Over Ben Ayade’s Defection To APC
- Ayade defected amidst speculations that another PDP governor will join the party after Ebonyi State governor, Dave Umahi defected months ago.
Following the defection of Cross River State Governor, Ben Ayade from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), some Nigerians have begun expressing their discontent at the action of the academic-turn-politician.
Ayade, earlier on Thursday, announced that he is dumping the PDP, the platform on which he was elected governor in 2015.

It is however not exactly clear why the Cross River governor left the platform that brought him to power in 2015. But he has for months complained about being poorly treated by the PDP.
“We need all governors to recognize that it is not party that matters. It is character, it is honor, it is commitment to the vision of this great nation. We all need to as a team work ahead of the president by working towards building a prosperous country that the succession worries of 2023 will come without the fears and the worries the international community has for us.
“I believe that if everyone of us as governor joins hands with Mr President, I think we can sit on the same dining table and fashion out a way to govern this country,” he said while announcing his defection.
In a swift reaction to his defection, some Nigerians on Twitter have criticised Ayade. While some described his defection as going “from fry pan to fire”, others opined that both parties are the same without an ideology as they keep recycling the same set of politicians.

Ben Ayade of Cross River has sold off to APC, the party of Islamization and Fulani conquest.
As the People living the reality of a blood-soaked, failed state we will never grasp the psyche of those meant to be our leaders.

Ben Ayade has decamped to APC.
APC=PDP
For Nigeria to move forward, the twins – APC/PDP must die.
It is very easy to understand Nigerian politicians because they are not "leaders" in any meaningful sense, or even "rulers".
They are rats in a feeding frenzy.

Ben Ayade’s defection reaffirms my position. Political parties in Nigeria have no ideology. Politician switching parties show how lowly they rate their followers. The APC & PDP are one and same thing. How can we trust a politician who isn’t even loyal to his/her party?

Ben Ayade has decamped to the APC on rumours that he has joined the list of those promised 2023 presidency. As it stands now 3 from the south south, 3 from the south east and 3 from the southwest have allegedly been promised 2023 presidency. One seat, 9 promises. How will it end?
