#TwitterBan: Nigerians Accuse Malami Of Using VPN, Trading Crypto

  • The federal government had, last week, suspended the activities of Twitter indefinitely over allegations that it poses a threat to Nigeria’s corporate existence

Some Nigerians have berated the Minister of Justice and Attorney-General of the Federation (AGF), Abubakar Malami, for allegedly using a Virtual Private Network (VPN) to access his Twitter account and trading in cryptocurrency.

Malami, on Tuesday, announced the deactivation of his Twitter account via a post he shared on Facebook.

“My Twitter account deactivated,” the minister captioned a screenshot of his Twitter deactivation page in a Facebook post.

In a swift response to Malami’s post, commentators quizzed the AGF on how he was able to access his Twitter account if the federal government had restricted access to the microblogging platform. EKO HOT BLOG had reported how the Minister threatened to prosecute violators of the Twitter ban.

Malami was also called out for allegedly trading in cryptocurrencies, another directive the federal government had issued through the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN).

This news platform also recognized the crypto exchange app icon at the top of the AGF’s screen in the picture he shared.

A Facebook user, Charles Awuzie, wrote: “Can Nigeria’s Attorney General, Mr. Malami please resign and save his name?

“The problem with our leaders is that they have no shame…

“You banned cryptocurrency but the screenshot you posted showed a crypto logo.

“You want to prosecute those who use VPN to access Twitter but your screenshot showed that your Twitter was accessed using VPN.

“If you have any atom of respect you will just resign.

“This is why Nigerians no longer have faith in the government – the laws are usually against the poor masses.”
