Two Bandits Killed in IED Mishap at Turji-Linked Camp in Zamfara
Two suspected bandits were killed while testing Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs) at a camp linked to extremist leader Bello Turji in Zamfara State.
The incident occurred in Barikin Daji Village and Dan Bagudu Hills, Talata Mafara Local Government Area.
The explosion occurred during a failed IED test by bandits, led by Turji’s lieutenant, Dogo Auta. Intelligence reports indicate the group had recently received weapons, ammunition, and IED materials via camels to aid in attacks in the area, as directed by Turji.
The explosion caused panic in nearby communities, including Garin Gwale Village, forcing many to flee.
Extremist groups in northwest Nigeria are increasingly using IEDs to target military and civilian areas.
The presence of explosives from illegal mining could worsen the situation, and security forces have been urged to remain vigilant for potential attacks.
