Tragedy struck in Bazabe village, Albasu Local Government Area of Kano State, as two men, Usman Muhammed and Ibrahim Inuwa, both aged 40, reportedly died from suffocation while attempting to retrieve a mobile phone from a pit latrine.
Eko Hot Blog reports that the incident happened on Saturday and was confirmed in a statement by the Public Relations Officer of the Kano State Fire Service, Saminu Abdullahi.

The statement revealed that the fire service received a distress call at around 11:16 a.m. from Inspector Auwalu at the Takai fire station, reporting that two individuals were trapped in the latrine.
A rescue team was immediately dispatched to the scene, but both men had already succumbed to suffocation.
He said ”Muhammadu was trying to retrieve his handset that fell into the pit toilet, when he got trapped.
” Thereafter, the second victim, Inuwa, tied a rope around him, entered the pit latrine with the intention of helping him out but also got trapped,” he said.
He stated that the two men were found unconscious and taken to the hospital, where medical personnel confirmed their deaths. He added that the incident has been reported to the Divisional Police Office in Albasu.
