At least two people have died, and dozens have been injured after a car drove into a crowded Christmas market in Magdeburg, Germany, local authorities reported.
The incident left at least 68 injured, including 15 with serious injuries, according to a statement from the city of Magdeburg. Among the deceased are an adult and a toddler.

Magdeburg police, in a statement on X, said extensive security and rescue operations were underway at the scene. Approximately 100 firefighters and 50 rescue personnel were deployed to assist victims and secure the area.
German Chancellor Olaf Scholz expressed his condolences on social media, stating, “Our thoughts are with the victims and their families. We stand with the people of Magdeburg in these difficult hours. My thanks to the brave rescue workers for their swift response.”
Magdeburg, the capital of Saxony-Anhalt with a population of 240,000, hosts the Christmas market annually, attracting visitors with 140 stalls, an ice-skating rink, a Ferris wheel, and a children’s play area. The market was scheduled to run from November 22 to December 29.
