U-17 World Cup: Golden Eaglets To Play Top European Country In Next Round

Five times world champion, Golden Eaglets of Nigeria and the Netherlands will face off in a mouthwatering 2019 U17 World Cup Round of 16 clash on Tuesday.

Despite losing 2-1 to Australia, the Golden Eaglets finished as Group B winners and will now face the Europeans who qualified from Group D as one of the four best third-placed teams..

The Netherlands who need 4 goals in their last group match against USA surprisingly surged into knockout phase contention by soundly defeating USA 4-0 on Saturday night in their Group D finale at the FIFA U-17 World Cup Brazil 2019.

Ajax youth player Sontje Hansen struck his team’s first two goals and assisted the third to lead the Oranje charge to Round of 16 to face five-time champions, Nigeria.

Holland qualified as one of the best losers. Netherlands lost to Japan 0-3 in their first Group D match, were also defeated by African side, Senegal but won the USA 4-0 to sail through to Round of 16. The Oranje boys garnered 3 points from 3 games, conceded 6 and scored 5 goals and qualified to book a Round of 16 ticket against Nigeria.

The most successful country in the competition, Nigeria came from 1-2 down to defeat Hungary 4-2 in their group B opener, outscored Ecuador 3-2 but lost 1-2 to Australia in their last group game.

The five-time world champions scored 8 and conceded six goals, ended as group B winners with 6 points from three games.
