Eko Hot Blog reports that in a move that will greatly benefit migrant workers, the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) has updated its policy on Employment Authorisation Documents (EADs), significantly increasing the automatic extension period from 180 days to a remarkable 540 days.
As quoted in the source, USCIS Director Ur M. Jaddou highlighted the importance of this step, noting that the extended period will “not only prevent gaps in employment authorization but also bolster the agency’s quest for sustainable solutions and enrich the discourse with public input.”
This policy enhancement is part of the Biden administration’s ongoing efforts to expedite the processing times for EADs, particularly for green card applicants. The measure is anticipated to safeguard the employment authorization of about 800,000 EAD renewal applicants, encompassing asylum seekers, Temporary Protected Status recipients, and green card applicants.
The U.S. move to extend work permit durations for Nigerians and other migrants showcases a commitment to supporting the economic contribution of non-citizens and fostering an inclusive environment for all.
