EKO HOT BLOG reports that the United Arab Emirates (UAE) has rejected the plea of Nigeria’s President, Muhammadu Buhari, to lift the visa ban imposed on Nigerian nationals since October 2022. The ban does not affect individuals holding diplomatic passports.

President Buhari had also directed the Central Bank of Nigeria to increase the amount of foreign exchange allocated to Emirates Airlines as a goodwill gesture towards the Arab nation.
However, the UAE has chosen to maintain the travel restrictions on Nigerians and other Africans accused of constituting unrest in its territory through cultism and other illegal activities, according to reports by Vanguard.
The ban has sparked concerns among Nigerians and other Africans who have been affected by the restrictions. It is unclear whether President Buhari, whose administration will end in a few months, will be able to persuade Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayad Al Nahyan to remove the ban.
The visa ban has been in effect since October 2022, with no indication of when it will be lifted. The ban has affected Nigerians who wish to travel to the UAE for business, tourism, or other purposes.
The decision by the UAE to maintain the visa ban has been met with disappointment by Nigerians and other Africans who feel unfairly targeted by the restrictions. However, the UAE government has defended the ban, citing concerns over security and the need to protect its citizens and residents from illegal activities.
The Nigerian government has not yet issued an official response to the UAE’s decision to maintain the visa ban.
