Eko Hot Blog reports that Vincent Enyeama, the former Super Eagles goalkeeper, has been acknowledged by UEFA as one of only four goalkeepers to have scored a goal in the Champions League’s history.
As stated in a post on UEFA’s official website, Ivan Provedel, Sinan Bolat and Hans-Jorg Butt are the other goalkeepers who achieved the feat.
Enyeama joined the exclusive list when he converted from the spot in Israeli club, Hapoel Tel Aviv’s 3-1 defeat to Olympic Lyon of France on September 9, 2010.
The shot stopper later moved to Ligue 1 club, Lille where he also enjoyed a stellar career.
Butt converted three penalties for Hamburg, Bayer Leverkusen and Bayern Munich in the Champions League during his active days.
Bolat and Provedel, like Enyeama, scored one goal each from the spot.
Similarly, in a post on their official website, UEFA recognised some of the finest shot-stoppers to impact the Champions League significantly.
Only three African goalkeepers were mentioned in the different categories under consideration, with Enyeama taking his place beside Cameroon’s André Onana and Senegal’s Edouard Mendy.
