UEFA Coefficient Ranking: Top 10 European Clubs

The Club Coefficient is used in the standings of the teams on the basis of their results in the UEFA Champions League and the UEFA Europa League in five previous seasons.

The system also helps to seed all UEFA competition draws, EKO HOT BLOG gathered.

How the Club Coefficients is being Calculated

— Champions League

From the 2018/19 season onward, the approved point system for the clubs’ coefficients is as follows:

Group stage participation — 4pts

Wins from group stage onward — 2pts

Draws from group stage onward — 1pts

Round of 16 Participation — 4pts

For teams that could find their ways into the round of 16, quarter-final, semi-final and final, they are due for additional points.

— Europa League

Also from the 2018/19 season onward, for teams competing in the Europa League, the clubs’ coefficient point system is as follows:

Preliminary round elimination — 0.5 pts

First qualifying round elimination — 1pts

Second qualifying elimination — 1.5 pts

Third qualifying round elimination — 2pts

Play-off elimination — 2.5 pts

Group stage win — 2pts

Group stage draw — 1pts

For teams going to the group stage, they must be automatically awarded 3 points. And if a team reaches the quarterfinals, the semi-finals and the final, they will receive extra points.

As an addition to the points system in the 2019/20 season, for two-legged matches changed to a single-tier match, the points system will be as follows:

Wins in regular or extra-time — 3pts

Wins after extra-time — 2pts

Losing after regular or extra-time — 1Pt.
