Nigeria’s Ambassador and multi-decked Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) fighter, Kamarudeen Usman, popularly known as Kamaru Usman (The Nigerian Nightmare) is currently perfecting plans of giving back to his country of birth and upbringing by setting up a sporting academy.
As gathered by Eko Hot Blog, this was contained in a statement signed by Gabriel Odu, Media, Public Relations and Protocols Unit, Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NiDCOM) in Abuja following a courtesy visit to the Commission by the UFC phenom.
Usman, who has been away from Nigeria for over a decade, said he was happy to be home, despite discouragement from individuals as well as the uprising that has enveloped the country in recent memory.
Usman, a native of Auchi, Edo State, stated his intention of setting up an academy to train Nigerian youths in his expertise: kick-boxing, boxing and mixed martial arts.
He encouraged Nigerian youths to work hard, while noting that no dream or aspiration is impossible if substantiated with effort, hard work and commitment.
Receiving him, an elated Hon. Abike Dabiri-Erewa, the Chairman/CEO, NiDCOM, said that his homecoming, brings a message of hope, to signify Nigeria’s unity in diversity.
Dabiri-Erewa described him as a kind-hearted Champion with a burning desire to pass on the mantle of greatness to future generations.

She called on other Nigerians in Diaspora to emulate Usman’s noble gesture by contributing to the country’s development in their various capacities.
The NiDCOM Boss stated that the Commission is poised to assist him towards actualizing his goal of giving back to the country.
Kamaru Usman was born in Auchi, Nigeria, he currently competes in the welterweight division of the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC), where he is the reigning UFC Welterweight Champion.
After making a name for himself in the world of combat sports, Usman joined the UFC in 2015. He currently holds a fighting record of 19 wins and 1 defeat, his latest victory coming in a successful title defense against Jorge Masvidal in Florida on April 24, 2021.
