Uganda Election: Twitter Users Laud Bobi Wine’s Courage Against 34 Years Of Museveni’s Dictatorship

Collation of the January 14 presidential election results in Uganda that pitched incumbent President, Yoweri Museveni whose 35-year reign is being challenged majorly by former popstar cum lawmaker, Bobi Wine is underway.

While the Internet has been shutdown for the past three days in the East-Central African country, Bobi Wine has managed to get to Twitter’s trend table and has been lauded by many as a poster boy for many African youths who might be looking to change the political status quo in their respective countries.

The 39-year-old had in a short time rose to become a major critic of the government and the face of the opposition among 11 other presidential hopefuls.

Museveni has been president of Uganda since 1986. He was involved in the rebellions that toppled dictator, Idi Amin before he captured power.

However, contrary to reports on social media that Bobi Wine is leading in the polls, local and international media have reported that Museveni is in a early lead having garnered over 60 per cent of votes counted so far.

Bobi Wine has rejected the results with claims of widespread fraud, violence and election rigging.
