The University of Ibadan on Wednesday said Edo State Governor, Godwin Obaseki, passed through its walls and earned a degree in Classics.
The University’s clarification was prompted by allegations that Obaseki, who is running for a second term in office in September, did not complete a first degree at the prestigious institution.

But Mr Obaseki actually gained admission in 1976 and graduated in 1979 with a Second Class Honours, Lower Division, the university said in a statement on Wednesday.
“Records of his admission and graduation are intact in the archives of the university,” the statement, signed by the University’s registrar, Mrs. Olubunmi Faluyi, added.
National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress, Mr Adams Oshiomhole, had earlier cast aspersions on the legitimacy of Obaseki’s UI certificate Tuesday.
The two, once cordial, have been engaged in a long-running conflict that has defied resolution even as the state’s September 19 governorship election approaches.
