Eko Hot Blog reports that the United Kingdom (UK) has implemented a controversial ban on health and care workers from Nigeria and other foreign nations.

According to the UK government, this move aims to curtail migration and reduce strain on public services. Overseas care workers, who brought an estimated 120,000 dependants to the UK in the year ending September 23, are now affected by this policy change.

The government frames this decision as a crucial step in achieving its ambitious goal of achieving the largest migration cut in history.

The Home Secretary, James Cleverly, has spearheaded efforts to introduce new legislation aimed at reducing migration.

Among these proposed legislation is an increase in the minimum salary criteria for skilled worker visas, raising it from £26,000 to £38,700.

Cleverly informed parliament that the previous year’s application of similar restrictions potentially led to a decrease of 300,000 migrants annually.
