Russian management team has pointed fingers at Ukrainian forces, accusing them of launching a drone attack on a nearby electricity substation.
This substation is crucial for the plant’s power supply, and the attack has raised concerns about the plant’s safety.
This isn’t the first time the plant has been in the crosshairs.
Russian forces took control of it back in February 2022, and since then, both sides have been trading blame for attacks that put the plant’s security at risk.
The latest incident involved a drone strike that damaged a transformer at the Zarya substation, which is right next to the plant.
EDITORS PICK:
The Russian management team is sounding the alarm, saying this attack could have serious consequences for the plant’s safety.
So far, Ukraine’s Defence Ministry hasn’t commented on the allegations.
But Russian-installed officials in the nearby town of Energodar are saying that Ukraine has staged similar attacks before, damaging two substations back in June.
The International Atomic Energy Agency is trying to keep the peace, with monitors on the ground and a plea to both sides to stop attacking the plant.
Let’s hope they listen, because the safety of the Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant is no small deal.
