Eko Hot Blog reports that shortly after the removal of Oleskii Reznikov as defence minister Ukrainian, Rustem Umerov will be appointed as the new defence minister.
The Ukrainian parliament on Tuesday approved the replacement stating that Umerov would take over from Reznikov after his resignation as the head of the privatization agency.
The president, Volodynyr Zelenskyy had said earlier on Sunday that he was going to sack Reznikov, and replace him with Umerov as the defence minister with the approval of the parliament. This led to Umerov’s resignation from the duty on Monday.
The Parliament will give its final decision as regards the proposal of the president on the matter. Although, it has completed the first stage of the process in two separate votes on Tuesday, members of the parliament are expected to back Umerov’s appointment in a vote on Wednesday.
Umerov appointment was based on merit as a former lawmaker, who had headed the State Property Fund since September 2022 and his efforts in turning a corrupt institution around.
His role and transparency in relaunching the sales of state property, raising record proceeds for the state during the war were also factors considered for his appointment.
“New, even more important challenges lie ahead. We need to be as efficient as possible, because every hour of delay is the life of our defenders,” Umerov said.
