Ukraine Claims Destruction of Second Bridge in Russia
Ukraine has announced the destruction of a second crucial bridge within a week as it intensified its operations in Russia’s Kursk region.
On Sunday, the Ukrainian military released aerial footage showing a strike on a bridge reportedly spanning the Seym River in Zvannoe.
“Minus one more bridge,” Ukrainian Air Force commander Lt. Gen. Mykola Oleschuk shared on social media.
This development comes as Ukraine is nearly two weeks into its most significant offensive on Russian territory since Moscow’s invasion in 2022.
Gen. Oleschuk said, “Ukrainian Air Force aviation continues to deprive the enemy of logistical capabilities with precision airstrikes, which significantly affects the course of hostilities.”
The video footage reveals a large cloud of smoke over the bridge, with one section appearing destroyed. The exact timing of the strike remains unclear.
Earlier this week, Ukraine targeted another bridge over the Seym River near Glushkovo, a key route used by Russia to supply its troops.
Military analysts had previously identified three critical bridges in the area, with reports indicating that two have been either destroyed or heavily damaged.

On Saturday, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky noted that his forces were fortifying their positions in Kursk and advancing deeper into Russian territory. In his Sunday evening address, he emphasized, “Our operation in the Kursk region is still inflicting losses on the Russian army and the Russian state, their defence industry, and their economy.”
Mykhaylo Podolyak, an adviser to President Zelensky, reiterated that Ukraine is not seeking to occupy Russia but aims to pressure Moscow into negotiations.
In response, Moscow has condemned the incursion as a significant provocation and vowed to deliver a “worthy response.”
As Ukraine pushes further into western Russia, Russian forces are simultaneously making advances in eastern Ukraine, capturing several villages in recent weeks.
Meanwhile, the head of the United Nations’ nuclear watchdog expressed growing concern over the deteriorating safety situation at the Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant in Russian-occupied Ukraine, following a drone strike near the facility’s perimeter.
Rafael Grossi, head of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), warned of the escalating danger and called for “maximum restraint from all sides” to protect the plant.
The IAEA reported that the strike impacted a road near essential water sprinkler ponds, about 100 meters from the plant’s only remaining high-voltage line.
The Zaporizhzhia plant, under Russian control since early in the war, has been the site of numerous attacks, with both sides blaming each other.
Last week, a fire broke out in one of the plant’s cooling towers, sparking a fresh round of accusations between Kyiv and Moscow.
The IAEA did not identify who was responsible for Saturday’s strike, but its team at Zaporizhzhia suggested the damage was likely caused by a drone carrying an explosive. “The team has heard frequent explosions, repetitive heavy machine gun and rifle fire, and artillery at various distances from the plant,” the agency said.
The Zaporizhzhia plant has not generated power in over two years, with all six reactors in cold shutdown since April.
