  • Ahead of the examinations, the JAMB regulatory body has released the data of the population of students set to sit for the papers.

  • According to the data, 1.6 students are scheduled to take part in the exams running to May 12.

EKO HOT BLOG reports that the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has announced the commencement of the 2023 Unified Tertiary Matriculations Examination (UTME) across the country.

According to data obtained from the examination body, close to 1.6 million candidates are expected to take the examination across over 700 centers.

The exam is scheduled to end on May 12, 2023, to allow for the registration of Direct Entry examinations.

The examination process kicked off with some centers in Ilorin, the Kwara State capital, where candidates were checked into the examination halls through the use of Biometric Verification Machines. While some candidates reportedly encountered hitches during the verification process, officials on the ground have assured that all glitches will be resolved.

Earlier scheduled to commence on April 29, 2023, the UTME’s date was changed to accommodate other major and critical national assignments, according to a statement by JAMB’s spokesperson, Fabian Benjamin.

The UTME is an annual examination for candidates seeking admission into Nigerian tertiary institutions.

It is a Computer Based Test (CBT) consisting of four subjects: Mathematics, English Language, and two other subjects relevant to the candidate’s course of study.

In recent years, JAMB has introduced measures to improve the examination’s integrity and reduce malpractices, including the use of Biometric Verification Machines and Closed Circuit Television (CCTV) cameras in examination centers.
