On sighting the guards, the three thieves digging the underground armoured cable with a digger, shovel and cutlass fled the scene.
However, a NAF guard opened fire and caught the shoulder of one of the thieves, who was later identified as Usman Musa.
According to a statement signed by FAAN’s Director of Public Affairs & Consumer Protection, Abdullahi Yakubu-Funtua, the suspect is currently receiving treatment at the hospital and will be interrogated after treatment.
“Usman Musa, 28 years old, a native of Adamawa State, residing at Ijora sustained gunshot wounds. He was subsequently arrested and taken to 661NAFH Ikeja,” Yakubu-Funtua said.
“He is receiving treatment at General Hospital Oyingbo while his other two accomplices escaped. Usman Musa will be properly interrogated after he has stabilised.
“The Authority believes that this incident could be a relevant clue to unravelling the theft of the runway lighting at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Ikeja.”
