Eko Hot Blog reports that a student of University of Benin, Benin-City, Edo State, simply known as Desmond, has been killed in his room at the Hall 3 Hostel on school premises.
He was reportedly shot dead by unknown gunmen in what appeared to be a cult-related incident.
Eko Hot Blog gathered that that late student, said to be in his final year and popularly known as ‘Mayor’, was shot at about 9 pm on Monday.
The gruesome killing of the deceased, who was also said to be a Kegite chief until his shocking demise, has caused panic among students on campus.

According to Punch, a student who pleaded anonymity said the deceased was shot in the face at point-blank range. A graphic video of the scene of the attack seen by Eko Hot Blog confirmed the eyewitness account.
“The killing of Desmond has caused panic in the school. Students are even afraid to stay in the hostel. He was shot in the face and had no chance to survive the attack,” the student was quoted as saying.
Angry and shocking reactions have trailed the daring attack as school hostels were hitherto considered “safe” for students.
Desmond’s remains have reportedly been deposited in the mortuary at the University of Benin Teaching Hospital (UBTH).
As of the time of filing this report, the UNIBEN management was yet to issue a statement concerning the incident.
