Unilag Crisis: We’ve Not Been Briefed On VC Removal Yet – FG
The Federal Ministry of Education (FMoE) said it has not been filled in on the alleged removal of Vice-Chancellor of the University of Lagos (UNILAG) Prof Oluwatoyin Ogundipe from office by Governing Council of the university.
The purported removal of Ogundipe as vice Chancellor of the University was announced in a statement announced in a statement by the Registrar and Secretary to Council, Mr. Oladejo Azeez, on Wednesday
The council cited gross misconduct, financial recklessness among others by the VC as the reasons for his removal.
However, in swift rejoinder issued almost immediately after the removal notice went viral, the embattled Vice Chancellor enjoined the general public to disregard the statement announcing his removal from office.
He said the alleged ousting from office is a figment of the imagination of those behind the scheme.
But Reacting to the of the development in Abuja, Ben Goong, the spokesperson for the education ministry, said their are still wait to be briefed on the development.

The statement noted that while the ministry awaits proper briefing from the university authorities, it must be stated that council has the prerogative to hire and fire.
The statement however said that due process must be followed in doing so.
It reads: “My dear colleagues, the Federal Ministry of Education wishes to state that it is yet to be briefed on the developments at the University of Lagos regarding the purported removal of the VC.
“While the Ministry awaits for the proper briefing from the university authorities, it is important to reaffirm that council has the power to hire and fire but that due process must be followed in doing so.”
