UNILAG’s Prof. Ibraheem to Deliver Historic Inaugural Lecture
Professor Ismail Adegboyega Ibraheem of the University of Lagos (UNILAG) will make history on Wednesday, December 18, 2024, as the first alumnus of the Department of Mass Communication to deliver an inaugural lecture as a lecturer in the department.
His lecture, titled “Casino Journalism and the End of History,” will explore the global challenges facing journalism and propose solutions to address them.
The lecture marks a significant milestone for the 62-year-old institution’s Mass Communication Department, as it will be the first such lecture by an alumnus in its 58-year history.
Professor Ibraheem aims to tackle ethical, funding, and managerial crises in the global media industry, with a focus on diverse societies like Nigeria.
The event, chaired by UNILAG Vice Chancellor Prof. Folasade Ogunsola, will attract academics, politicians, and civil society leaders.
Former Vice Chancellors Rahamon Bello and Oluwatoyin Ogundipe are also expected to attend.
Planning committee chairman Prof. Adepoju Tejumaye emphasized the relevance of Ibraheem’s lecture, highlighting the need for media interventions that promote fair, balanced, and quality reporting in today’s socio-political climate.
