    • Unity of Epe Division is sacrosanct and non-negotiable

Eko Hot blog reports that the Chief Imam of the Epe Central Mosque, Ita-Opo, Sheikh Abdullateef Oladapo has called on the fragmented communities in Epe Division to bond together towards ensuring lasting unity and concord in the Division.

Sheikh Abdullateef made the call during an interview with Eko Hot blog.

He said: “The strategic importance of Epe as one of the five administrative divisions of Lagos state and the gateway of the Lagos economy can only be fully harnessed within a culture of unity and peaceful co-existence of all residents of Epe community regardless of the ethnic divide; therefore, the unity of the community is holy, sacrosanct and non-negotiable”.

“Power belongs to Almighty Allah”, and leadership quality in any sphere is measured not from the position but action and the impact on the general populace

“The onus is on all of us, including Muslim clerics, to use our positions as a veritable platform to propagate the word of Islam and the promotion of peace and unity,” he said.

“Our action as leaders speaks volumes about who we are. Our love for the community and our ability to use the position to honestly address issues that are pertinent to the progress of the community is an essential determinant of the prosperity of the people.

“The only threat to our collective existence as members of the community is our myopic attitude in the discharge of our patriotic responsibility. We have all failed by allowing our interest to take precedent over the national interest,” he continued.

Lateef said, “If we continue to imbibe the spirit of patriotism, there is no doubt our community will be a better place”.

On the ongoing controversy surrounding the rotational arrangement of the position of the Grand Imam of the Epe Division that saw the emergence of Sheikh Abdulrahman Abiola Sadala Aliru, Alhaji Lateef said it is not his personal decision but the prerogative of the Council of imams and Alfas in Epe Division to agree disagree with the rotational arrangement.

He acknowledged the efforts of His Excellency, Governor Babajide Sanwoolu, the Deputy Governor Dr Obafemi Hamzat, the Chairman, Epe Local Govt, Mrs Sura Animashaum towards the amicable resolution of the issue.

He also commended the role of our traditional rulers, particularly the Oloja Of Epe, Oba Kamoru Animashaun in arbitrating the issue to a peaceful resolution.

“Epe is my town, and it is my sacred responsibility to work assiduously towards the upliftment of the community,” he concluded
