EKO HOT BLOG reports that following an incident that took four lives on Tuesday night, there is palpable anxiety at Anara market in the Isiala Mbano Local Government Area of Imo State.
Suspected gunmen in a white sienna car opened fire at the market, killing four people, according to reports.
According to a report by Daily Post, the incident occurred around 8:30pm while the traders were preparing to close for the day.
A team of angry looking policemen were also sighted at the crime scene.
A source close to the market leadership who pleaded anonymity, confirmed the incident to newsmen on Wednesday afternoon, saying the attackers opened fire on a woman selling cooked food, killing three on the spot and one person who was rushed to a hospital later gave up the ghost.
He said the attackers invaded the market in a vehicle and shot sporadically at the traders.
“They (attackers) who went in their vehicle and didn’t alight from the vehicle shot sporadically at the traders without provocation then drove away, immediately,” he said.
It was also gathered that the corpses of three of the persons who died immediately were evacuated on Wednesday morning.
When contacted, the police spokesperson for the state, Micheal Abattam, said that the state commissioner of police, Rabiu Hussaini, had ordered an investigation into the killings.
