EKO HOT BLOG reports thathe announcement was made in a public notice issued by Mr. Reuben Muoka, the NCC’s Director of Public Affairs, on Friday.
Exchange Telecommunications, a local and international interconnect carrier, was reportedly notified of the disconnection request and given the opportunity to present its case.

However, the NCC, after reviewing the circumstances, determined that Exchange had no sufficient justification for failing to settle the charges.
The decision is in line with Section 100 of the Nigerian Communications Act, 2003, and the Guidelines on Procedure for Granting Approval to Disconnect Telecommunications Operators, 2012.
According to the NCC notice, the disconnection will take effect five days from the date of the announcement. MTN Nigeria will cease routing voice and data traffic through Exchange and will use alternative channels for interconnection with other service providers.
The NCC clarified that the disconnection would remain in effect until further notice.
