UPDATED: Tinubu, Organised Labour Reach N70,000 Minimum Wage Agreement [VIDEO]

President Bola Tinubu has reached an agreement with labour leaders on N70,000 on minimum wage for workers in the country.

Eko Hot Blog reports that this was disclosed in a statement by Presidential aide, Bayo Onanuga on Thursday.

According to the statement, President Tinubu approved N70,000 minimum wage for workers during a meeting with leaders of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and Trade Union Congress (TUC) at the presidential villa on Thursday.

The N70,000 agreement represents a 133.33 percent increase on the current N30,000 minimum wage signed into law by former President Muhammadu Buhari in 2019.

Following the meeting, the President of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), Comrade Joe Ajaero, briefed the media and confirmed that the unions had accepted the offer.

Ajaero, accompanied by Comrade Festus Usifo, President of the Trade Union Congress (TUC), and other representatives of Nigerian workers, stated that the unions had accepted the offer because there were other incentives attached.

He said that the president’s pledge of a review every three years, as opposed to what had previously been received, was another factor in his decision to accept the offer.

This development signals an end to what has been a long negotiation involving the federal government, organized Private Sector and organized Labour.
