Urban Mobility: LASG Will Partner Awa Bike, Others To Transform Transportation

Permanent Secretary, Ministry Of Transportation,  Mr Sewedo Oluseyi Whenu harped on the use of bicycles for last mind journey to reduce the number of road crashes, pollution, gridlock amongst others.

In an interview with Ekohotblog, Whenu who was represented by the Director of Transport Operations, Engineer Toriola explained that urban mobility is what developed countries like China, Japan, etc now use to reduce congestion and improve the environment.

He noted that some modes of transportation like walking, mass transit, car sharing, urban use design needs to be encouraged to reduce the number of vehicles on the roads.

When asked on the role of private agencies in the process, Toriola affirmed that government has limited resources and is ready to partner private set ups like Awa Bike (a cycling agency) to minimize the use of motorcycles on roads as their mode of driving is becoming worrisome to the state.

Awa Bike is a sharing initiative, a revolution in transportation, extending personal mobility through a network of custom made bicycles that can be checked out at stations.
