US election: Shapiro emerges as top contender for Democratic VP slot
As the Democratic Party prepares to announce its vice-presidential candidate ahead of the US election, all eyes are on the three finalists.
The three finalists who met with Kamala Harris on Sunday were Arizona Senator Mark Kelly, Pennsylvania Governor Josh Shapiro and Minnesota Governor Tim Walz.
While the decision is yet to be made official, there are indications that Josh Shapiro from Pennsylvania is the frontrunner and may likely emerge as Harris running mate.
Shapiro: A portrait
Joshua David Shapiro is a successful lawyer, who is a force to be reckoned with in Pennsylvania politics.
He is currently serving as the 48th Governor of Pennsylvania since 2023 and has no doubt established himself as a dedicated public servant.
With a strong affiliation with the Democratic Party, Shapiro, 51, has built an impressive resume, having served as the 50th Attorney General of Pennsylvania from 2017 to 2023.
Prior to that, he honed his leadership skills as a member of the Montgomery County Board of Commissioners from 2012 to 2017.
Throughout his career, Shapiro has demonstrated a commitment to justice, equality, and the well-being of Pennsylvanians. As Governor, he continues to drive progress and positive change in the Keystone State.
Shapiro graduated from the University of Rochester and Georgetown University Law Center. Before entering politics, he worked as a lawyer and served as a staffer for several politicians, including Senator Bob Casey and Congressman Joe Hoeffel.
In 2015, Shapiro was elected as the Chairman of the Montgomery County Board of Commissioners, and in 2016, he was elected as the Attorney General of Pennsylvania.
However, Kamala Harris’s progress since Joe Biden’s departure from the presidential race has made her a strong contender.
After Joe Biden announced his withdrawal from the presidential race, Kamala Harris saw an opportunity to reinvigorate her campaign.
With her impressive track record as a senator and former Attorney General of California, Harris has been making strides in the Democratic primaries.
The 2024 United States presidential election will be the 60th quadrennial presidential election, set to be held on Tuesday, November 5, 2024.
Kamala will face off against Donald J. Trump, the 45th President of the United States, in the upcoming election.
Trump, determined to reclaim the White House, is taking a second shot at the presidency, setting the stage for a thrilling and potentially historic contest.
