When asked about potentially pardoning himself or dismissing the special counsel, Trump responded, “Oh, it’s so easy… I would fire him within two seconds.”

Smith, who charged Trump in Florida for retaining classified documents at Mar-a-Lago and in Washington for efforts to overturn the 2020 election, would be removed, Trump said, if he secures another term.

Trump also claimed he had immunity granted by the US Supreme Court, referencing a recent decision stating former presidents are immune from prosecution for actions taken in office.

Although firing the special counsel typically falls under the attorney general’s authority, Trump has hinted at appointing an attorney general who would ensure the justice department steps back from the pending cases against him.
