Karoline Leavitt, Press Secretary to President Donald Trump, said during a press conference that the U.S. is in a strong position because of its large consumer market.
“They clearly need us,” Leavitt said. “They depend on our economy, our people’s buying power, and our way of doing business.”
She explained that countries like South Korea, Japan, and Vietnam have already contacted the President. Italy is also expected to visit the White House soon to discuss new trade opportunities.
“There’s a reason they are all coming to us,” she added. “They understand how important the U.S. market is to their survival. President Trump is using this opportunity to push for better deals that will benefit American workers and businesses.”
This statement follows Trump’s recent decision to suspend tariffs on imports from over 70 countries, including Nigeria, for 90 days. This temporary pause is meant to give room for fresh discussions and new trade terms.
The White House believes this move gives America a powerful advantage. Officials say that by controlling access to its markets, the U.S. can demand fairer deals and protect its own industries.
Meanwhile, some analysts believe this could lead to stronger economic ties, while others warn it might increase tensions if not handled carefully.
