Eko Hot Blog reports that his Republican colleague Rick Scott said, “McConnell and his deputies ‘caved’ to Democrats on a whole host of issues.”
Scott is among a handful of senators calling for next week’s leadership elections within the Republican caucus to be delayed. Others include Ron Johnson and Marco Rubio, both re-elected on Tuesday to their Senate seats in Wisconsin and Florida respectively.
“The Republican brand, set by Mitch McConnell on down, is not exciting, is not persuasive, is not convincing to voters,” former Trump White House adviser Stephen Miller said.
But some have come out in defence of the Senate minority leader.
Senator Tom Cotton of Arkansas said that McConnell should remain in his post and the party should focus on winning next month’s runoff election in Georgia.
