Chairman/CEO, Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NIDCOM), Hon. Abike Dabiri-Erewa, has showered encomium on a Nigerian, Lt. Victor Agunbiade of the United States Navy for his sheer display of rare shrewdness and transparency.
The United States of America navy had honoured Agunbiade over his smooth handling of $75 million meant for foreign distribution.
Consequently, the United States Navy honoured the Nigerian-born officer, Lt. with the Navy and Marine Corps Development Medal.
The Navy lauded Agunbiade, who emigrated to Lake Crystal, Minnesota from Nigeria in 2007,for “demonstrating superior leadership’” and “unswerving determination, wise judgment and complete dedication to duty.”
The authorities Qsaid he was able to account for every cent put in his care while serving at Camp Lemmonier, Djibouti.
“Demonstrating superior leadership, Lieutenant Agunbiade managed the navy’s largest cash disbursing office with $45m in cash transaction accounting for approximately 70 per cent of the navy’s overseas disbursing volume. Additionally, he maintained 100 per cent accountability of $23m across six rigorous inspections and independent audit with zero discrepancies.
“By his unswerving determination, wise judgment and complete dedication to duty, Lieutenant Agunbiade reflected great credit upon himself and upheld the highest traditions of the United States Naval Service.” The US Navy said in statement on Saturday.
However, reacting to Agunbiade’s nonesuch feat in a congratulatory message, Dabiri-Erewa commended him for portraying Nigeria in good light and waving its flag high.
He praised Agunbiade for being a good ambassador of Nigeria with his exemplary conduct and outstanding character, adding that his exploits will further place Nigeria in good stead and vantage position among the community of nations, while at the same time correct the misconception about the Nigeria nationals.
“It is most commendable that Mr Agunbiade, working with the US Navy, effectively managed its largest cash disbursing office handling 45 million dollars (N17billion) in cash transaction,” she said.
“It was learnt that the US Navy said you supervised its fund which accounted for 70 per cent of its overseas disbursing volume without any hitch.”
“With this exceptional financial integrity, good accountability, excellent behaviour and dedication to duty, you have reflected great credit upon yourself and upheld the highest traditions of the United States naval service as well as your country Nigeria,” she stressed.
The NIDCOM boss noted that this is not the first time Agunbiade will be making Nigeria proud with his exemplary character as he was named the Navy’s 2018 Officer Recruiter of the Year, alongside 17 others, and honoured at the annual Recruiter of the Year ceremony in Washington D.C.
“We are truly proud of you and urge you to continue to extol the virtues and strength of the Nigerian heritage of excellence, honesty, integrity and honour. Your shinning beacon serves as inspiration to the youth of Nigeria,” she said.
