US rapper Fatman Scoop has passed away at the age of 53, his manager announced on Saturday, following a medical emergency during a live performance.

Scoop, widely recognized for hit tracks like “Be Faithful” and “It Takes Scoop,” collapsed on stage at Hamden Town Center Park in Connecticut.

EKO HOT BLOG reports that he was rushed to the hospital, but despite efforts by medical personnel, including CPR administered on stage, he could not be revived, according to reports from US media.

A video of the incident, obtained by celebrity news site TMZ, shows medical staff attempting to resuscitate him before he was taken away on a stretcher.

In 2018, Fatman Scoop briefly found himself at the center of a political controversy in Australia when the country’s then-prime minister, Scott Morrison, posted a video featuring Scoop’s hit “Be Faithful.” Morrison, a conservative evangelical Christian, deleted the post after critics labeled the lyrics as inappropriate and unparliamentary.

“It’s quite clear that that is not a song on my playlist,” Morrison later clarified to reporters in Sydney.

Scoop responded to the controversy on Instagram, tagging Morrison and saying, “I am humbled to have my voice rocking in the highest offices of the Australian Government!” He defended his lyrics, calling “Be Faithful” a “fun PARTY SONG that has no NEGATIVITY or HARM in it!!” and even extended an invitation to Morrison to attend a festival in Australia.
