The USA overcame a challenging first half to secure a 1-0 victory over Brazil in the Women’s Olympic Football Tournament final, thanks to a decisive second-half goal from Mallory Swanson.

The 26-year-old forward capitalized on her blistering pace, breaking through Brazil’s defense to slot home the only goal of the match.

Brazil started the match strongly, with Ludmila causing problems for the American defense early on. She nearly scored in the opening minutes, but her shot was comfortably saved by Alyssa Naeher.

Later, Ludmila thought she had put Brazil ahead with a powerful strike, only for the goal to be disallowed due to a narrow offside call.

Brazil continued to press, with Naeher making a crucial reflex save to deny Gabi Portilho later in the first half.
