We require an exceptional individual to fill the position below:

Job Title: Technical Safety Engineer

Location: Lagos

Job Description

  • Provide advice and support on all aspects of technical safety engineering including Safety Studies, Loss Prevention, Noise, Human Factors and Environmental studies.
  • Carryout safety engineering and risk assessment (and legislative compliance) studies including fire, explosion, smoke and gas dispersion modelling, QRA, etc. in accordance with company procedures and industry best practices.
  • Scribe in formal safety reviews / audits, and in some cases actively contribute to HAZID, Bowties, ENVID, HAZOP, SIL studies etc. in order to facilitate and ensure any gaps are addressed.
  • Identify, assess and manage risks associated with operational modifications or a specific project to ensure a safe design and successful project delivery.
  • Provide advice and guidance to project and operational teams on the risk mitigation measures required for operational and integrity-related Technical / Process Safety issues.
  • Identify foreseeable hazards for modifications to production installations so that appropriate studies can be completed.
  • Review multi-discipline engineering documents to ensure that designs which minimise potential risks have been adopted.
  • Represent the technical safety team at project kick-off meetings, progress and design review meetings for projects or change proposal designs.
  • Manage own budget on projects and report progress against schedule.
  • Contribute to the maintenance and update of relevant safety engineering standards.
  • Work with Clients and specialist Technical Safety Engineering Subcontractors for work planning and prioritization and budgetary control.
  • Detailed Technical Report writing.
  • Report any breaches of safety procedures to supervisor / management.
  • Actively participate in and promote company health and safety campaigns, policies and procedures, and ensure safety at all times.
  • Prepare proposals and CTR estimates.
  • Deliver quality, cost effective and timely engineering support within short interval planning and conflicting priorities.
  • Follow up and maintain good communication with Clients.
  • Perform any other tasks relevant to business and departmental goals as directed by management.

Qualifications

  • University degree in Chemical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Mathematics / Physics (Second Class Upper and above) preferably with additional postgraduate qualification.

Essentials:

  • Knowledge & Understanding of the following techniques: Safety Studies, HAZOP/SIL/LOPA/HAZID, BowTie Analysis, ALARP, SIMOPS, Fire & Explosion, Consequence Modelling, QRA.
  • Knowledge of relevant standards, practices, and regulations, with emphasis on those applicable within Nigeria, UK, US, Norway & Australia.
  • Familiarity with offshore production operations and the hazards associated with them.

Desirable:

  • 3-5 years’ experience of working in an oil and gas engineering or consultancy environment in Technical Safety Engineering.
  • Extensive experience of the application of safety engineering software, tools and techniques, particularly relating to oil and gas operations.

  • Ability to work in both large and small teams.
  • Ability to carry out tasks in accordance with defined procedures and instruction.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality.
  • Ability to work under pressure without compromising quality and standard.
  • Ability to work on own initiative with limited supervision.
  • Excellent communication, influencing and interpersonal skills, and must have the ability to document and present clearly.
  • Ability to communicate orally with vendors, clients, management, and other co-workers, both individually and in front of a group is crucial.
