Blackout In Abuja As Vandals ‘Sabotage’ Shiroro-Katampe Transmission Line
Eko Hot Blog reports that some parts of Abuja, Nigeria’s capital city, on Sunday, suffered a blackout after vandals vandalised the Shiroro-Katampe transmission line.
The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) disclosed the disruptive development in a statement on Sunday.
According to TCN, the latest act of vandalism is the fifth of such incidents within February and March of 2024.
The company also disclosed that the vandals made away with conductors from the transmission line after vandalising nearby towers.
It further revealed that it is currently mobilising for conductor replacement, pending completion of security operations at the site.
Meanwhile, the second line remains fully operational, transmitting at full capacity to Abuja, in conjunction with the Gwagwalada line serving the Kukwaba-Apo axis, the TCN said.
It also stated that its wheeling capacity to serve Abuja and environs would be enhanced by the Lokoja – Gwagwalada transmission line.
While describing the vandalisation as sabotage, TCN urged security agencies and host communities to collaborate in apprehending the perpetrators as well as protect the nation’s transmission infrastructure.
