VAT In Nigeria: Buhari’s Aide Says Wike Is Tribalistic

  • Value Added Tax (VAT) in Nigeria controversy has taken another turn, as Ajuri Ngelale, an aide to the president said governor Nyesom Wike of Rivers, who dragged the federal government to court over the matter, is promoting ethnic bigotry.

Ajuri Ngelale, a Senior Special Assistant to President Muhammadu Buhari on Public Affairs, has stated that governor Nyesom Wike of River, is tribalistic.

According to Ngelale, Wike was tribalistic and aggressive in his pursuit for the collection of VAT in Nigeria by the South-South state.

Ngelale noted that contrary to the Rivers governor’s claim, the Federal Government had not been taking the money made in the oil-rich Niger Delta to Northern Nigeria.

He also said that the Federal Government makes contributions to VAT generated in the country, noting that the 36 states do not generate VAT all by themselves.

Ngelale, who said that he is from Rivers State, flayed Wike over his alleged ethnic posture, saying that VAT collection by the Federal Inland Revenue Service is about “harmonized tax policy” to make businesses easy for Nigerians.

He warned that VAT collection by states would lead to double taxation which could make survival difficult for business owners in the country.
