Veteran Nigerian Journalist, Jacob Zango Dies After Brief Illness
Veteran Nigerian journalist Jacob Zango has passed away in Kaduna State after a brief illness.
EKO HOT BLOG reports that the Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN) Kaduna State Chapter, in a statement issued on Friday by Secretary Okpani Jacob Onjewu Dickson, announced that Zango died on Wednesday.
The statement also noted the grief expressed by Kaduna SWAN Chairman Shehu Abdullahi, who lamented the loss of Zango at a time when his expertise was most needed in SWAN. SWAN extended condolences to Zango’s immediate family, KSMC, the Atyap community, the Kaduna State Government, and all his friends and professional colleagues.
The statement read: “On behalf of all our members and SWAN President Isaiah Kemje Benjamin, who is also from our state, we express our sadness at the loss of one of our veterans. While I was a staff member at Kaduna State Media Corporation (KSMC), where he worked until his passing, we were more than colleagues; we were like brothers.”

The Chairman added, “We pray that the Almighty God grants his gentle soul eternal rest.”
In other news, a devastating flood in the Dalmari community, Tarmasuwa, Gamawa Local Government Area of Bauchi State, North-East Nigeria, resulted in two fatalities and one serious injury. The village head, Idi Garba, confirmed the incident, which occurred on Thursday night following prolonged heavy rainfall.
Among the deceased was a 16-year-old boy who was killed when the building he was sleeping in with his brother collapsed. His brother was rescued but injured. An elderly man also lost his life in a separate apartment.

The flood caused extensive damage, destroying several homes and properties, although the full extent of the destruction is still being assessed. Garba has called for government and philanthropic assistance, as many residents have been left homeless and their food supplies and belongings have been ruined.
