A number of residents and street urchins swathed the tanker with jerry cans leaching on the inflammable content.
But for the timely intervention of the police, who chased the young people away and seized some of the jerry cans, there would have been an explosion with devastating casualties on the busy expressway.
It was gathered that the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA), federal and state fire services, paramedics and policemen cordoned off the area afterwards, diverting traffic to other routes.
According to the Director General LASEMA Dr. Femi Oke-Osayintolu, the tanker driver sustained injuries and was rushed to the hospital by paramedics.
