EKO HOT BLOG reports that Vice President Yemi Osinbajo returned to his hometown of Ikenne in Ogun State on Friday, ahead of the gubernatorial and state assembly elections that took place on Saturday.
Yemi Osinbajo, who was accompanied by his wife, Dolapo Osinbajo, and a few aides, arrived at his country home after attending the funeral service of Hilda Adefarasin in Ikoyi, Lagos.
After his arrival, Osinbajo held meetings with leaders and members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ikenne Local Government at the Legacy Centre in the town. Among those present were Adewunmi Onanuga, a member of the House of Representatives representing Remo Federal Constituency, ward chairmen, and local government councilors.
The ward chairmen in attendance included Hon. Kunle Orelaja, Hon Niran Salau, and Hon. Segun Awomuti, while the councilors present were Hon. Idowu Matonmi and Kayode Shodiyan. During the meeting, the APC stakeholders expressed their appreciation for Osinbajo’s national service and his contributions to the Ikenne Local Government Area.
The Vice President and his wife were also expected to cast their votes at Egunrege in Ikenne on Saturday in the governorship and state assembly elections. The polls were conducted peacefully, and there were no major incidents reported in Ikenne or the state as a whole.
Osinbajo’s visit to Ikenne and his meetings with APC stakeholders were perceived as a boost for the party’s chances in the elections, as the Vice President is still a popular figure in the state.
The APC was hoping to maintain its control of the governorship and state assembly in Ogun State, where it currently holds a majority. The results of the elections are anticipated to be announced soon.
