EKO HOT BLOG reports that Napoli’s Victor Osimhen has won the UEFA Champions League Goal of the Week award for the first time. The Nigerian international’s beautiful header in Napoli’s 3-0 win over German side Eintracht Frankfurt was voted by fans as the best for the week.
Osimhen scored Napoli’s second goal of the game in the second half before nodding home superbly from Matteo Politano’s cross deep into stoppage time in the Round of 16 second leg tie. The 24-year-old has scored four goals in five appearances for Napoli in the competition this season.
Osimhen was also nominated for the Player of the Week award, which was won by Manchester City striker Erling Haaland. Haaland scored twice in Manchester City’s 4-0 win over Borussia Monchengladbach in the Round of 16 second leg tie.
The UEFA Champions League Goal of the Week award is given to the player who scores the most impressive goal in the week’s matches. Fans vote for their favorite goal on the UEFA website, and the winner is announced a few days later.
Osimhen’s award-winning goal against Eintracht Frankfurt has been widely praised for its technical brilliance and composure.
The striker has been in red-hot form for Napoli lately, scoring six goals in his last six appearances in all competitions.
